Ceramics

Coil Urn

Ceramic coils. Approx. 2 1/2 feet high.

I made this large urn by hand, stacking clay coils and scraping them smooth with a wooden flat wedge. After firing I painted on opaque white glaze then scoured some off to give the piece an antique’d look. I still want to embellish it with blue crystals…someday…

Squirrel nut holders

Each squirrel approx. 12” L X 4” H

”Teeter”

Approx. 6” H X 6” R

Etruscan Wine Cup

Approx. 5” H X 10” R

“Fire and Ice”

Approx. 5” H X 11” R

The silver and gold was created by blending separate colors that oxidized during firing, changing the colors completely.

Details of the pinch pattern that decorates the inner sides of “Fire and Ice”

Handmade whistle (in the key of C) with small matching crock

Ceramic pieces fired a rusty matte red, decorated with dark blue splotches of color that evoke a tribal flair.

Designing this whistle took precise joining of the neck over the air hole of the main body, otherwise it will not produce any sound.

CD Cover Art Design

“A Soul in Flight”

Colored graphite on paper. Approx. 9” X 12”

I donated this piece of art to a friend’s CD project benefiting cancer research.

Handmade book “The Advent of Life on Earth”

“Frequencies of Energy”

Colored graphite and ink pen on paper.
Approx. 6” X 9” mounted on lava-textured card stock.

All matter in the Universe was created from waves of vibrations…music!

“Formation of Matter”

Dirt, colored graphite, and ink pen on paper.

Approx. 6” X 9” mounted on lava-textured card stock.

The Earth congeals into a planet.

“Advancement of Growing Things”

Grass stains, colored graphite on paper.

Approx. 6” X 9” mounted on lava-textured card stock.

Plants cover the globe.

“Zygotes”

Acrylic on paper.

Approx. 6” X 9” mounted on lava-textured card stock.

The Human Race arrives.

“The Balance”

Tombo brush pens on paper.

Approx. 6” X 9” mounted on lava-textured card stock.

A delicate balance of beneficial things that support us, and the non-beneficial things that drags us down is held together by one slender thread, and if in the future that thread breaks…

“The End of Life”

Acrylic on paper.

Approx. 6” X 9” mounted on lava-textured card stock.

The descent into oblivion.

Murals

“California Poppies”

Benjamin Moore Aura latex exterior house paint with matte sealer.

Approx. 6’ X 24’

This design is inspired by an unknown artist’s work, the example given to me by my client which they wanted me to recreate. All colors were hand-mixed by me from three primaries.

“Musicians Onstage”

Acrylic paint with matte sealer.

Approx. 6’ X 20’

The client requested the colors used, citing a calming effect on prospected viewers.

WORK IN PROGRESS

“Purple Pansies”

Colored graphite on paper. Approx. 9” X 12”

Flowers are always a peaceful project for me to work on; the endless colors I discover when concentrating on each individual petal. I’ll be continuing to develope the colors in the left pansy, and darken the background to make the flowers jump out at the viewer.

“Primary Lifeforms”

Colored graphite on paper. Approx. 9” X 12”

Three mysterious animate life forms float in space, gazing out through single ocular orbs. Others will come to life behind the leaders, as they travel about the skies.

“Every Father’s Son”

Pastel on blue toned Canson paper. Approx. 24” X 36”

This is an anti-war piece.

The companion to “Every Mother’s Daughter,” and the second of a developing triptych, this young Palestinian boy holds a pineapple grenade. Layers of color are scribbled over each other to create the shadows in his skin, clothing, and grenade; highlights of lighter color will go over these to stitch together the final image.

WORK IN PROGRESS

“Earth’s Spirits: Golden Eagle”

Graphite on watercolor paper. Approx. 9” X 12”

The second piece in my “Earth’s Spirits” series. The graphite drawing is ready for the first washes of watercolor.

“Musicat”

Graphite on paper. Approx. 9” X 12”

I haven’t yet decided whether I’ll be staying with black and white, or adding colored graphite.

”Harmonica Player: Portrait of John Franks”

Graphite on paper. 9” X 12”

I’ll be adding highlights of color to the figure and the background.
